Content Writing (UCO) – The New Kid on the Block

Content writing has a new acronym, UCO (user content optimization).  UCO may not be a new tactic. In fact, it is as old as writing itself. Many of you know it by its former name, quality content. Nevertheless, website content writing has taken on a new role, challenging SEO as the acronym of choice.

Search engine optimization (SEO) will not give up its king of the hill status easily. I doubt that it will ever be replaced. Yet, the new kid on the block may give it a run for the money. Let me explain why.

What is UCO?

Google’s Panda update created its own whirlwind storm.  Marketers are running around wondering what happened. It is no secret. UCO is simpler than Search Engine Optimization. It is User Content Optimization, UCO for short.

Why would anyone query a search engine? Common sense would tell you that the searcher was looking for information, for quality content.  All he wants is an answer to a question. He may want to compare prices or features. I am sure that sometimes he might be looking for a good review and he is ready to buy.

Tangled Buzzwords

Yet, how many times have you made a query and found an organic list of sites wanting to blatantly sell you something? If you have had my experience, then you have seen those billboard webpages many times. A webpage with lots of color, lots of hype, but no substance, no quality content, or worse a web of tangled buzzwords suspiciously meant to attract mechanical spiders in the hopes of snaring an unsuspecting human with its fake brilliance.

Proofreading Is More Important Than Ever

How important is proofreading articles? Just ask Google. Google has downgraded many websites and pages on the internet simply because the online article writing content was not relevant and was of poor quality.

The Google Panda update is not just about keyword stuffing and copied content. It is about providing overall relevant high quality content. The update has changed online article writing for the better.

Many of us understand relevance to denote that the content is meaningful, that it is in keeping with what the title implies the article is to be about. What about poor quality? What does that mean? How does Google define poor quality or good quality?

Here is what Google has to say about what to consider assessing the quality content of a page or an article: “These are the kinds of questions we ask ourselves as we write algorithms that attempt to assess site quality… Was the article edited well, or does it appear sloppy or hastily produced? Would you expect to see this article in a printed magazine, encyclopedia or book? Are the pages produced with great care and attention to detail vs. less attention to detail?”

Content Marketing and Article Marketing

With the advent of Google’s Panda Update the current rules of article marketing have changed and should be labeled under the umbrella of content marketing. If content was king before the update, it is now the supreme ruler over all writing for the web.

If you are new to article marketing or content marketing you may have the misconception that all you need do is write an article, have it published by an article directory then sit back and wait for the money to come in.

If you believe that writing for the web requires only that you write a few three hundred word articles with well placed keywords and a call to action, then wait for the articles to be singled out by one of the many publishers that your article directory has access to you are mistaken.

Want More Sales Increase Your Aritcles Readability

Article writers applying content marketing often overlook content readability when composing their articles. Article writing for marketing must not only consider motivating readers to buy a product, they must also provide valuable readable content.

With the advent of Google’s stated goal to improve a user’s search experience, many websites and articles lost their coveted positions in Search Engine Ranking Positions (SERPs). It is now, more then ever, that content is king. Article writing as a means of ‘gaming’ the search engines through keyword stuffing, article blasts to thousands of article directories, and weak, poorly structured content are gone….

Spinning an Article – A Tool to Increase Your Traffic

Spinning an article is the next best thing to creating an entirely new article. Sometimes it is difficult to come up with new ideas for a new article that discusses the same subject. This article on spinning shows that done properly you can create unique and quality content with the same theme as the original article.

No magic bullet exists that will create readable coherent articles from any one article by using automated spinners. Have you experimented with automated spinners? Then you know that article spinning is for the most part a useless endeavor. Or, the system is so complicated and hard to implement that you give up using it.

What if you could create unique quality content, simply and easily? Would that interest you? It did me. Well you can.
New technology can now let you create 10-20 or more unique readable articles quickly. With this rewriting tool, you will increase your output tenfold with less than half the effort.

Many think that rewriting an article is some kind of cheating. It is not. If you are an article marketer, you know that the number of articles you publish is critical to your success. Although the words spinning and rewriting are used interchangeably, some say that rewriting is the same as spinning an article that is not correct.

Spinning an article is the random substitution of words, usually synonyms, in an article. The result is sometimes readable but often it is not. It can also be the mixing of different paragraphs or sentences from different articles to create a “unique” article.

Many writers fail to understand that you must create at least two versions of the entire article before you can successfully create multiple spun articles. They think that changing a word here or there or an occasional sentence will do the trick. Not so! You will not get the recommended 70% uniqueness for the spun articles.

You know, as I do, that there are free article spinners on the internet. There is old adage, “You get what you pay for.” I believe that is true.

Develop a simple system. With the original article as a template, start rewriting paragraph by paragraph. You will be surprised how quickly you can think of alternative wording for your original article.

Create two versions for each paragraph. This will insure the maximum number of spun articles. The number of spun articles generated is dependent on the number of paragraphs in the article and the number of versions you create.

For instance, if you have two versions of an article with five paragraphs, you will have 32 spun articles. If you have three versions of an article with five paragraphs, you will have 243 spun articles. Not all the articles will be 70% or better in uniqueness, but many will.

Wouldn’t that kind of productivity increase your traffic? Of course, it would. What you could do with those unique articles? You could post them on blogs, forums, and directories. You could create PDF files, newsletters, and e-books.

Think of a reader stumbling on one of your articles on the web, clicking through to your blog or site and finding the very same article – not good. Having a unique article or post will decrease your bounce rate.

If you are a serious article marketer, you know the value of writing many articles to get traffic. With a rewriting tool like SpinLeverage Technology, you can easily create many unique readable articles in minutes as opposed to hours.

Spinning an article is easy with the right tool.

Newbie Article Writers, What is Quality Content?

It seems like everyone and his uncle tells newbie article writers to write quality content. Content is king. But, few bother to define quality content.

Just what is quality content? If you do a Google search for “quality content” without the quotes, you get over 330,000,000 results (as of this writing). Do you think there may be a few different definitions in that search?

Let’s restrict our Google search to “quality content writing”. That limits the results to a little over 39,200,000. That is much narrower, but still a number that will give you a mind-boggling list of definitions.

Since we are article marketers, we will restrict our search even further to “quality content writing for article writing” now we get a mere 7,990,000 results. We are definitely getting somewhere (smile).

Bear with me. I will make one last stab at this search. Searching for “quality content writing for article writing definition”, we get a measly 3,310,000 returns that’s about one per cent of the original “quality content” query.

Do you think there might still be a vast assortment of definitions for quality content writing for article writers? You bet there are!

Reading over some of those definitions, everybody has an opinion. I’m sure you have an opinion for the definition. I say you do because you have published articles and they are examples of what you think the definition should be.

That is the point. Definitions for “quality content for article writers” are subjective and relative to the conditions in which you apply them. Does that make sense?

You define it by the content you write, the audience you want to attract, or the publisher who may or may not define it for you.

Are there standards? Yes, there are. We will assume that grammar is not an issue, that your articles are grammatically acceptable.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself, as an article marketer, when attempting to write good quality content.

* Does your article contain good information that is relative to the audience you are addressing? You should know who your audience is.
* Have you researched the subject or topic of your article to the degree that the information is current and accurate? Are you writing from experience? If you are, you must still check for timeliness and accuracy.
*Are you addressing the issue raised by your title? The reader is expecting to read about the problem, the tips, or the solutions raised in the title. Do not mislead your reader.
* Finally, as an article writer, what is your goal in writing this article? I am sure you will agree that ultimately you want the reader to buy your product.

You must learn the skill of using words that motivate. Use words that motivate your reader to action embedding those words in the content without detracting from the quality of your article writing.

One last very important note, although quality content in your article writing is a very important part of the marketing process, there is more. You can write a Pulitzer Prize winning article and not make a sale! Why?

You have to promote your articles.

Improve Your Article Writing – 4 Pitfalls To Avoid and One Caveat

Writing articles is a rewarding profession. Website content writing and blog article writing are not only monetarily rewarding, they offer you an opportunity to provide valuable information to your readers.

More than likely you are comfortable with English grammar and style. Yet, there are subtle pitfalls that new and seasoned website content writers and blog writers overlook. This article identifies four pitfalls to avoid when writing good quality content.

You may have read or heard that content is king; well, that is true. Writing articles is not like writing a sales letter. You should not write a sales letter disguised as an article when your reader is looking for quality information.

If you plan to publish in the major article directories, your content must deliver what your title implies. If your title does not deliver, then more than likely your reader will bounce away and not read down to your call to action, to your resource box.

When writing articles there are a few things that you should avoid and that readers DO NOT want to see in your article writing:

1. Poor Research

Make sure that any fact you publish can be verified. You have promised your reader that you have the information he is searching for.

Do not let your reader down. Do your due diligence. Research your material and do not plagiarize.

2. Continuity

Have you ever tried reading an article that lacks continuity? By that, I mean an article that rambles from one topic to another with no apparent order. It does not flow.

The article may have some great ideas. However, the problem is that the ideas that are scattered throughout the article. They are loosely placed in the article and are not interconnected.

An incoherent structure will only give your readers headaches, as they try to connect your ideas on their own. Writing articles of good quality content require continuity.

3. Poorly Constructed Sentences

One of the basic skills of writing articles is, of course, sentence construction. This means that a writer must know how to create sentences, spell words and maintain parallelism.

Parallelism is best explained by an example: “John likes football, to play basketball and playing tennis” breaks the rule of parallelism because it mixes a noun with an infinitive and with a present particliple. Writing, “John likes football, basketball, and tennis” or “John likes to play football, basketball, and tennis” are correct parallel sentence structures.

Sentence construction is important. After all, it is the main tool in getting the message across to the readers. If in the first few sentences, the structure is difficult to understand, then the reader will find no use in reading the entire article.

4. Using $10 Words

It is in our nature to impress others, but using big words in an article only intimidates and alienates your reader. Samuel Johnson, British author and critic, said long ago, “Do not accustom yourself to use big words for little matters.”

Besides that, how many readers do you think will put down your article to pick up a dictionary and look up the meaning of a word? I doubt a reader will do that. More likely, he will leave your article and find a different one.

If you must use a $10 word, explain it in your article or better use another word.

5. A Caveat

Although the tips mentioned above will improve your writing, it is not necessarily the case that it will improve your sales. I have seen poorly constructed articles that convert to sales very well without attention to the tips mentioned.

Even though it is admirable to use good grammar, it should not stop anyone from writing articles. Your high school teacher is not looking over your shoulder. As I mentioned previously even poorly constructed articles can still make sales.

This short article is about writing a well-constructed good quality content article and about a few common pitfalls that we should strive to avoid. It is not about marketing skills. That demands a different article.

These are just a few of the things that you should keep in the back of your mind when writing articles. As you may have guessed, there are many others.

Experience will teach you as you progress in article writing. Avoid the oversights mentioned here and get more readers.

Are PLR (Private Label Rights) Articles Worth Using?

I will give a non-committal answer. It depends. Private Label Rights come in two varieties, exclusive rights and non-exclusive rights.

Non-Exclusive Rights

The most common are the non-exclusive rights. These articles are sold in packages and you can do whatever you want with them. You can resell them. You can publish them “as is” or you can rewrite them and add your own voice to the content.

If you decide to use them “as is” and publish them, you run the risk of almost certain duplicate content labeling by search engines. That is not the best use for PLR articles. Most PLR packages contain a wide variety of niches. The articles vary in length. They can be anywhere from 300 to 600 words long. Some packages include a list of keywords.

Packages can be sold individually as a one-time purchase or you can buy into a monthly membership. Individual packages sell for as little as $5 and up. Monthly memberships run under $50 per month and on up.

There is an old saying I know that you are familiar with, “You get what you pay for.” That is most certainly true of the PLR market. Much of it is garbage. Unfortunately, you don’t know it until after you buy the package and review the contents. So, be very careful who you buy from and check around the internet forums for any comments or references before you buy.

Please remember that many of these packages are sold. They are all floating around the internet.

Exclusive Rights

Exclusive rights are those rights that give you ownership of the contents. That includes the claim of authorship and the copyright to the material.

PLR packages with exclusive rights are rare. Maybe even non-existent. If you search the web for ‘exclusive rights PLR’ you get a myriad of hits. If you look closely, you will find that they are not truly exclusive. Most give you the right to claim authorship but hold back the copyright. Without the copyright, you do not have ownership. Depending on the conditions of PLR package you can resell it, give it away, or put your name on it. They are no different than the non-exclusive PLR packages mentioned before.

So, what are exclusive right PLRs? If you hire a writer to write articles for you, upon acceptance and payment, you own the article. You have the copyright. You paid for it. It is yours. There are reputable companies that provide this service. Elance is the most popular. You have to scour through the internet and search since there are many to choose from.

Using PLRs

On occasion I use PLRs. I always rewrite them. I use them when I know very little about the subject I am writing about. It educates me and gives me ideas on what to write. I use them if I have writer’s block. They jump start my creative juices and I am off again.

I use them for fillers on my blog, but I always rewrite them. You can use them to create a PDF file for an eBook. You can use them to make comments on blogs and forums.  PLRs have their place and should not be discounted. Just remember, it is not original content and act accordingly.
